Partner university in Asunción
Many have now recognized the potential of the Mercosur countries and wish to establish new partnerships and strengthen existing ones. In addition to its abundant natural resources and agricultural sector, Paraguay offers ideal conditions for electric mobility. Thanks to the Itaipu Dam and two other smaller dams, this small South American country meets its entire electricity demand with renewable energy[1]. For years, there have been efforts to utilize this energy for electric mobility[2] and for the production of green hydrogen. In particular, charging management and bidirectional charging—and thus the ability to store excess electrical energy in vehicles on a short-term basis—are very beneficial for Paraguay’s power grid[3]. German industry is aware of this market potential and requires experts in this field not only in Germany but also in Paraguay.
Following initial contact during a private trip, the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA) in Paraguay has been an official partner university of BHT since 2024. A group of faculty members from Asunción visited BHT in August 2024 and toured several laboratories. In return, I taught the fundamentals of electromobility as a visiting lecturer at UNA for six weeks in the spring of 2025 and again in the spring of 2026.
There is an opportunity to carry out joint projects, internships, or thesis work. If you are interested, I would be happy to assist.
