Research Infrastructure
Actually, together with the project team MINT-VR-Labs, we use various #virtualreality hardware as Oculus Quest, a CAVE and other options of #virtualisation in #teaching.
Please contact our project team coordinator Dr. Evelyne Becker for further details.
Besides from our teaching labs for microbiology, I did install a Biosafety Class II lab (S2 according to German legislations for Biosafety and Genetics Engineering regulations) composed of two rooms.
One room is equipped with a class II laminar air flow (Berner B-Max 190) and full equipment for the microbiological work. Currently, my colleague Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Grohmann is conduction her research projects in this lab. A guest company from an EXIST-project (support: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Götz) is also taking benefit from this infrastructure of our university.
The second room is equipped for molecular biology experiments. A Roche LightCycler 96 and two separate PCR-hoods are available for separate parts of experiments on DNA-free material and DNA-analysis. A pipetting robotic device, Gilson PipetMax, is also available to conduct automatized experiments. A FastPrep (MP Biomedicals Germany GmbH) is supporting experimental set-up to an advanced standard.
In our building we also have a Bruker ultrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF/TOF at hand, which was successfully funded by a cooperative application (FH-Invest by BMBF) of my colleagues Prof. Dr. Hinderlich, Prof. Dr. Götz and myself. Here, we also have a regularly updated BioTyper data base at hand for the fast and reliable identification of microorganisms.
During a big application by EU EFRE funding, a consortium of eight colleagues (Bader, Götz, Hinderlich, Hagemann, Grohmann, Jabs, Lübke and myself) was able to fund an automatization project, including the PipetMax and a complex Hamilton-robotic device. Currently first projects are using this infrastructure.
