Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Grohmann

Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Grohmann has been Professor of Microbiology and Principal Investigator at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT) since 2015. She studied biochemistry at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), with a focus on food chemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, and immunology.

From 1998 to 2010, Prof. Grohmann led several research groups at Technische Universität Berlin and headed the research group “Transfer of Antibiotic Resistance” at the University Medical Center Freiburg. In 2011/2012, she conducted research stays as a visiting scientist in Spain at the University of the Basque Country (Universidad del País Vasco, UPV).

Following her appointment as Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Biology at Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from 2012 to 2014, Prof. Grohmann joined BHT in 2015. Since 2018, she has been heading the Microbiology Laboratory within the Biotechnology degree program in the Department of Life Sciences and Technology.

Prof. Grohmann is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the German Society for General and Applied Microbiology (VAAM), and the Association for Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine (GBM). She serves as an editor for several scientific journals and acts as an external reviewer for national and international research projects and fellowship programs. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications and book chapters. Her professional activities also include organizing international workshops and courses in Germany and abroad, as well as moderating sessions at international conferences and workshops.

Prof. Grohmann has supervised more than 100 Bachelor’s and Master’s theses and 15 doctoral dissertations. She is also the holder of a patent entitled “Novel antigen from enterococcal pathogens and its use as a vaccine component for therapy and/or prophylaxis” (EP20100190167).

With over 25 years of teaching experience in microbiology, molecular biology, and environmental microbiology, Prof. Grohmann has made substantial contributions to academic education. She has collaborated with national and international partners and has served as the principal investigator of more than 20 research projects.
